Spring Renewal

We can trust the seasons. Each season gives structure to times of change. Spring represents renewal, as we continue on with our collective retreat, the sunny skies remind us to peep out of our shells and explore our potential. Distance Reiki & Yoga Sessions

Blissful Period

It may not feel like a blissful period of time, but when I look around, I see helpers everywhere! Individuals and companies doing all that they can to support each other. In particular, “Period Aisle” is a Vancouver based company known for their amazing social justice work, sustainability motto, and inclusivity ethics. Early on in the quarantine, they shifted from making reusable sanitary products to producing masks for our service providers in downtown Eastside. Bravo! Bravo!

My own contribution is this “Blissful Period” practice, you don’t have to be menstruating to do this practice, you don’t even have to have a uterus. It too is an inclusive practice for everyone, everywhere. I hope it brings you peace.

Testimonials

“My son was so excited about your “GCFM” Wednesday classes that has helped him go through his core issues. He spent a decade on meds, physiotherapists, chiropractors and massage therapists with no significant result. Thank you for your creative approach and enthusiasm during the yoga sessions.” Vlad

“Carine teaches a Ball rolling Yoga class at RAC. I have bursitis in my hip and rolling on the ball has greatly alleviated the pain. For me the Ball rolling class achieves the same results as going to a physiotherapist. Carine is a wonderful caring gentle person and an inspiration to her students. Thanks Carine.” Mardi

“Carine’s yin yoga class is the yoga that I have been trying to find for years. Carine is such a good teacher that I’ve finally been able to grasp the basics and make that elusive mind body connection that I’ve been stumbling through since the 70’s. At the end of every class, during our last pose, Carine wafts lavender over us. One night, during this time, she took extra time over me, and I felt the last claws of my 3 days migraine lifted out of my skull and jaw. When I asked her about it, she explained she had cleared my energy. I felt that she waved my negative energy away. It was true magic.”  Judyann

Our “Whip it” walk not in the park

We went on our “family retreat” walk along the dyke yesterday and found a big carton box of green “Whip It” cartridges dumped at the mouth of the pipes! Thankfully it was low tide so that we were able to pick them all up one by one (hundreds of them). This is normally where ducks swim when the tide is high. We didn’t have gloves and were eager to go home to wash our hands.

I was angry and frustrated with the “Whip it” litter criminal. I was mad for the river, for the earth, for the ducks! Then a friend informed me that they are often used by addicts, another friend had called the police as they had also seen the mess.

I began to see the innocence of the “Whip it” dumper. What drove him/her/them to get a cheap high? Don’t they know that their actions affect all of us? How can we help each other? How are they suffering? How will I ever understand? I tried and know that I will never know, but this inner exploration has a profound lesson. It taught me to let go of anger, let in compassion, to see without understanding. I believe this is where we can have a chance to “Whip” each other back to our wholeness, the round of our earth depends on it.

I crafted a 30 minutes practice to support your personal retreat, the first 15 minutes are core stabilizing movements, and the last 15 mins are meant to ground your energy in restorative poses. You are welcome to extend the times of either, with more repetitions in the first half, or longer holds in the last half. Please make it your own. Oh turn up the volume!

May we keep each other accountable and know that what we do personally affects us all. Please take care in your self retreat

Namaste!

Laundry News

Self Isolation? Self Retreat!

Perspective is everything. I hope you’re taking our national quarantine seriously, stay home and take this time to slow down. It’s also a great time to do some laundry, spring clean inside the home and inside the mind to remember your inner soul.

I have washed all the studio’s blankets, bolsters, eye pillows etc….and I’m hopeful that we will practice together soon. My time line to start again will be dependent on the most current government updates. I would like to see the flattening of the curve of this exponential virus before we meet again.

I plan to brew up some free virtual classes for you to support your home retreat. If you are supposed to come back in the end of March, we’ll just delay the classes. I’ll keep you posted!

How about this 15 minutes practice if your nerves are getting the better of you?

  1. Legs up the wall, knees can be bent with bolster or cushions behind legs, focus on 4 count inhales and 5 count exhales. (5 mins)
  2. Forward fold, can bend knees and use cushions behind knees, breathe into belly, side of ribs, and back. (5 mins)
  3. Supported child’s pose, if head below heart feels wrong, prop yourself higher with cushions. (5 mins)
  4. How about a good laugh?

Slowing to Spring

Last year a part of my body was removed through surgery. One of the doctor said that I no longer had a breast, it’s called a chest wall now. Very factual and nonchalant. I found her funny as she reminded me of Edna, the designer in the superhero movie ” The Incredibles”.

Others, may it be doctors, friends or strangers, reporters, news, OUT THERE the noise of chaos keep piling in our faces 24/7. If you keep looking outside, you’ll always find a new name for a new body part, a new virus or a new shirt that you don’t need….

So STOP!

So simple and challenging isn’t it? If I stopped writing you’d probably be annoyed now….

I had to learn to slow down first, then stopping came slowly.  When that happened, cease fire of excessive searching or acrobatic doing led me to peace. I saw myself as a SAGE with one breast and one chest wall, comprising both masculine and feminine qualities, very androgynous like the sacred statues and feeling like a superhero amazingly wise all at once. So Doctor Edna as I like to call her, bless her heart,  was so wrong because she gave a name to something that is nameless, and thank you!  I don’t have a hole in my body chest wall or whatever you’d like to call my beautiful body, I see myself with a whole body thriving and living a fearless loving divine life.

This Spring, I hope you will make time to slow down 🙂
